Holland was the first country to have WPMs outside of Portugal. In the late 80's Irish Wolfhound breeder and judge Jose Cornelisse saw the WPM at the World Show in Copenhagen, Denmark. However, she waited another 10 years to get her first WPM, since pedigrees were of no concern to most breeders in Portugal.
When her friend, fellow judge and wolfhound breeder Josef Das (also of Holland), went to the Portuguese Monografica show in 1996 he brought back (ultimately, for Jose) 3 year old Tomilho do Vale do Poco (above), bred by Vitor Veiga, President of the Portuguese Podengo Club of Portugal.
He became the foundation sire of Holland WPMs. The first litter he sired was born at La Gadda da Vida by R. Lokhorst. Jose stayed in the breed for 10 years and is now back to exhibiting and breeding her beautiful and gentle wolfhounds. Her blog can be seen here: Fionnmae.com.

The other big kennel of HOLLAND was Van de Kleiheuvel ("of the Clay Hill"), owned by Ronald Fokken and Reijnhout Geytenbeek. In recent years they have also not bred or shown WPMs.

Other breeders in Holland who have had litters of WPMs include Rubicon (Mevr. M.L.J. Hoobroeckx-Duurentijdt), which had one litter in 2002, O Coelho Cerdoso (Systke Nijkamp and G. Vasse- Kloosterman), which had one litter in 2003 and Classy Jazzy (Carola and Erwin van Wetten-Smits), which had one litter in 2005.
Systke Nijkamp imported several puppies from Portugal in December 2010 in an attempt to deepen the gene pool there. She is also the main organizer of a study in Finland for the cause of a disease that has taken down several WPMs (one of the Lysosomal Storage Disorders) in the less rustic countries. Most recent findings show that it is caused by a certain kind of carbohydrate, which makes me think it is probably found in certain brands of dog food. The Portuguese do not feed regular dog food, generally. And even so, they supplement with meat and lard. Additionally, they will do away with a dog that is showing health issues. Furthermore, this disease kills the dog before it is breeding age.
